Rainy Season Remedies: Master the Battle Against Dandruff!

Dandruff, a prevalent problem especially among individuals in the age group of 18-25 years, is one of the most common problems affecting the scalp. It arises primarily due to dry scalp conditions and microbial infections, which are also significant contributors to baldness in men. The problem gets worse during the monsoon season, affecting both men and women. Since dandruff is caused by the accumulation of dead skin, and in more severe cases, aggravated by organisms such as yeast, it gets worse during the monsoon season when the fungi responsible for it thrive, explained Dr BL Jangid, dermatologist and hair transplant surgeon in New Delhi and founder of SkinQuar Clinic.

1. Choose the right shampoo:

Choose anti-dandruff shampoos that contain effective ingredients like ketoconazole, salicylic acid, and selenium disulfide. Since these shampoos contain sulfates, it is advisable to use a conditioner afterward. These ingredients help fight the fungus responsible for dandruff, keeping your scalp clean and healthy.

2. Massage your scalp gently:

Massaging the scalp with oil can improve blood circulation. However, do not keep any kind of oil applied overnight. For best results, leave the oil on for an hour and then wash it off thoroughly. This not only promotes hair growth but also prevents dandruff growth by keeping the scalp nourished and moisturized.

3. Limit the use of hair products:

Reduce the use of hair styling products like gels and pomades, especially those containing alcohol as it can dry out the scalp and increase dandruff. So use alcohol-free products to maintain scalp health.

4. Maintain hygiene:

Wash your hair frequently, ideally daily, to prevent oil and dirt from accumulating that can cause dandruff. After getting wet in the rain, be sure to wash your hair immediately to prevent dandruff from growing. Avoid using a blow dryer; instead, gently towel dry your hair to reduce scalp irritation.

5. Choose the products wisely:

There are many anti-dandruff products available in the market, so it is very important to choose the right product for your hair type. Before choosing any product, analyze it thoroughly to avoid adverse effects and ensure effective control of dandruff.

6. Avoid home remedies:

Although home remedies like lemon or yogurt are popular, they cannot treat dandruff effectively. Consulting a dermatologist for professional advice ensures that you choose the right treatment suitable for your scalp condition.

7. Seek professional help:

If dandruff persists or worsens despite following these tips, consider consulting a dermatologist. They can provide personalized advice and recommend customized treatments to address the underlying causes of dandruff.
