The title of the film, which was initially going to be ‘Globetrotter’, was revealed last year at a grand event held at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad in the presence of several thousand excited fans.

The title launch event was hailed as a once-in-a-generation spectacle, as thousands of fans attended the event, making it one of the largest live fan gatherings ever seen in the Indian entertainment sector.

The event featured one of the largest stages ever built for a film show, consisting of a screen 100 feet in height and 130 feet wide.

The makers have already revealed the characters and looks of Mahesh Babu, Prithviraj and Priyanka Chopra in the film. While Prithviraj plays the villain Kumbha in the film, Priyanka Chopra plays the role of Mandakini. Mahesh Babu has played the character named Rudra in the film.

At the event, director Rajamouli also revealed details of an episode shot for ‘Varanasi’. The director said that that particular episode would be one of the most memorable scenes of all his films.

“Since childhood, I have said many times that I love Ramayana and Mahabharata. Making Mahabharata was my dream project. Even when I started working on this film, I did not realize that I would be shooting an important scene of Ramayana for this film. But while writing every scene, I felt like I was walking on air. On the first day, when I saw Mahesh dressed as Ram and doing the photoshoot, I got goosebumps.”

The director said, “We had a great time shooting this episode. We shot for 60 days. It was completed recently. Every day was a challenge because each sub-episode in the huge episode was like a cinema in itself. It required fresh planning. We crossed everything and completed that sequence. It will be one of the most memorable sequences of my films.”
