Last year, he received a call from the actor’s office, inviting him and his family for a meeting. This is a day when Karthik will never forget. “Thalaor took me around his house, showing me to the gurus and gods he prayed … we spent 40 minutes together,” they say. Karthik’s office is adorned with photographs framed from the meeting. “He said that he hopes to meet us every year,” he says.

Like most of the actor’s dying fans, Karthik has watched every Rajni film. “At home, we see nothing other than Thalaor films,” he talks. “When his film plays in theaters, we see it as a family week after the week until it moves.” For him, no matter how good the film is or who is the director. He says, “I care that the big screen is looking at Thalaor.”
