Chennai: Superstar Rajinikanth released the first look of director Surya Prathap S’s upcoming sci-fi thriller ‘Root’ – Running Out of Time starring actor Gautham Ram Karthik in the lead role on New Year’s Day, much to the delight of fans and film lovers.
Actor Gautam Ram Karthik, who shared the film’s first look poster and his excitement about his idol Rajinikanth on social media, wrote, “As far as blessings go, it is truly an incredible experience to have my idol, the great superstar, Rajinikanth sir releasing the first look poster for our project, Root. What a great way to start 2026! Feeling truly blessed and grateful! With his blessings, Root embarks on a timeless journey Yes! #RootFirstLook.”

There are huge expectations from this film for many reasons. Interestingly, one of them is that the film will be the Tamil debut of Bollywood actor Aparshakti Khurana, who plays a pivotal role in the film. What’s more interesting is that Aparshakti Khurana has dubbed his part in the film in Tamil.
The production house Verus Productions, which produced this film, had announced this on its social media page a few days ago. It then said, “@aparpower_khurana has completed his Tamil dubbing for #Root. A first in Tamil. A first for Tamil. @aparpower_khurana voices ROOT. And the ROOT voices are back. He gave it his all – and BOOM, the dubbing is finished! Introducing @aparworthy_khurana in Tamil. And @aparworthy_khurana from Tamil!”
It is noteworthy that the film unit had announced on November 1 this year that they have completed the shooting of the film.
Director Surya Pratap S had said, “We have officially wrapped up the shooting of ‘Root’! Making this film has been an unforgettable journey, we have poured our hearts and hard work into creating a memorable experience for the audience, and we can’t wait to share it with you all.”

The film stars actress Bhavya Trikha in the lead role, which also stars veteran actor YG Mahendran in a pivotal role.
Sources claim that the film, produced by Dhanishthan Fernando, Rajarajan Ganasambandam, Sanjay Shankar and Sheikh Mujeeb under the banner of Verus Productions, will be a thriller.
