Sun TV Network Limited has contacted Rajinikanth-Starr in the Madras High Court against the grant of ‘A’ Certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). CoolieDue to which it is impregnable for people under 18 years of age to watch a film in cinema’saters.
Justice TV Thomalselvi on Tuesday (August 19, 2025) organized a civil diverse appeal filed by the production firm against the CBFC’s decision and directed the High Court registry to give the case number and listed it on Wednesday (20 August) to enter before it.

The High Court Registry had suspected the stability of the appeal and listed the anonymous case before the judge on Tuesday to call the case. Senior Panel Advocate A. Kumaraguru also said that the appeal was not worth maintaining.
However, M. Senior advocate J. J. J. J. Ravindran assured the court that the film could be denied the U/A certificate by CBFC, challenging before the High Court through a civil appeal, which was formed under the Cinematograph Act, 1952 since a tribunal.
The senior advocate said that Section 5C of the Cinematograph Act states that any person who applies for a certificate in relation to a film and suffers against issuing a particular certificate, can file an appeal before the tribunal constituted under the Act within 30 days.

He also brought it to the judge’s notice that according to the Tribunals Reforms Act, 2021, the appeal could be directly filed before the High Court, if the tribunal was abolished. With his submission, the judge agreed to hear the appeal on Wednesday, as it was counted.
In its base of the appeal, the production firm said that he had produced Coolie To celebrate 50 years in the film industry of Mr. Rajinikanth and the film became “mega blockbuster” due to its Pan-India star-cast, which included Nagarjuna Akineni, Aamir Khan and others.
Saying that it had applied for CBFC certification for the film on 28 July, the production firm said that on July 31, it was surprised to receive an e-mail from the board, stating that the screening committee had found the film to celebrate the violence and therefore, only agreed to issue a ‘certificate’. When the appellant requested a review by the Amendment Committee, later, on August 4, it ended issuing only one ‘A’ certificate. Since the film was to be released on August 14, due to the booking cinemas worldwide, the manufacturers chose it to release it and then challenge the certification.

Saying that Rajinikanth had fans who have cut off in age groups around the world and were eagerly waiting for men, women and children. Coolie To celebrate 50 years of his cinematic journey, the appellant said that all people below the age of 18 were now denied the opportunity to attend the festival.
The production firm also told the court that CBFC had issued a U/A certificate for films like Yash-Starrer. Sect And victory-starrer AnimalBut surprisingly a ‘A’ certificate was selected to issue a certificate CoolieHowever, there is not much violence in the form of two other films.
