Rangeela Raja director Sikandar Bharti dies of cancer

New Delhi: Filmmaker Sikandar Bharti, best known for directing Bollywood films from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s, died on Friday at the age of 60. He battled cancer for six months before passing away at the age of 60.

Sikandar Bharti was cremated on Saturday in the presence of family and friends. His last directorial film was ‘Rangeela Raja’ starring Govinda.

Sikandar Bharti gained recognition for directing various films, such as ‘Ghar Ka Chirag’ with Rajesh Khanna, Chunky Pandey and Neelam; ‘Zalim’ starring Akshay Kumar; ‘Police Wala’ starring Chunky Pandey; and ‘Do Funtoosh’ with Amjad Khan and Shakti Kapoor.

He worked with many different actors in the industry, from Rajesh Khanna to Govinda, and did films of different genres including action, drama and comedy. Sikandar Bharti’s directorial portfolio also includes films like ‘Rupee Dus Crore’, ‘Bhai Bhai’, ‘Sar Utha Ke Jiyo’ and ‘Dand-Nayak’.

His last film ‘Rangeela Raja’ was released in 2019, which was a comedy starring Govinda in a double role. The film was written and produced by Pahlaj Nihalani. Sikandar Bharti is survived by his wife Pinky and their three children Sippika, Yuvika and Sukrat.
