Mumbai: Actress Rani Mukerji released a commemorative postage stamp in honour of legendary filmmaker late Yash Chopra at the Australian Parliament House ahead of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2024.
Rani said she was honoured and overwhelmed to be part of this important occasion of the release of the commemorative stamp of legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra at the Australian Parliament House.
Rani said, “It is not only a celebration of Yash Chopra and YRF’s rich and influential 50-year-old legacy of shaping pop culture across the world, but also of the Indian film industry that has entertained countless people through the power of cinema.”
The actress said that IFFM has been the catalyst in bringing India and Australia closer to each other by promoting cultural and creative ties for the last 15 years.
He said: “I am proud that the festival has grown from strength to strength year after year and continues to serve as a bridge connecting the best creative minds from India and Australia.”
The event coincided with the keynote speeches delivered by Rani Mukerji and Karan Johar at the Parliament in Canberra.
A postage stamp of late Yash Chopra was released commemorating his iconic cinematic legacy, his significant contribution to Indian cinema and his influence in making Hindi cinema a global pop culture movement.
Yash Chopra was also the first patron of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM). The event took place on August 13 ahead of the 15th annual festival which begins on August 15.
The stamp unveiling ceremony was attended by many dignitaries, members of parliament and various ministers. Also present at the event was Karan Johar, who delivered a powerful keynote address at the Australian Parliament.
“This is a landmark year for the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne as we celebrate our 15th year. And it is our privilege to share this special evening where Rani Mukerji will unveil a postage stamp commemorating the late Yash ji. His contribution to Indian cinema has influenced generations and will continue to do so for many more to come,” said Festival Director Mitu Bhowmick Lange.
Lang said it was an absolute honour to invite the Queen to honour his legacy on this special historic day.
The Festival Director said: “This is a memorable moment for us as Yash ji was our first festival patron and a huge support system. The launch of his stamp is dedicated to his 15th year with this commemorative stamp.”
The festival will be held in Melbourne between August 15 and 25.
