New Delhi: Rapper Honey Singh has come clean about rumors that superstar Shah Rukh Khan allegedly slapped him during his tour in the United States, resulting in stitches on his head. In his recently released documentary Yo Yo Honey Singh, the rapper revealed that the rumors were false and sad, especially considering Shah Rukh Khan’s kindness towards him over the years.
The incident in question happened when Honey did the lungi dance for the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Chennai Express and was invited to tour with the star. “Now, nine years later, let me tell you what really happened. No one knows what I’m going to tell you on camera now,” Haney explains in the documentary.
Heaney described how he did not want to perform one evening but was pressured to do so. In an attempt to avoid exposure, he shaved his head and recalled his family to India. When that failed to work, he broke a coffee cup on his head, causing injury, leading to rumors that Shah Rukh Khan had attacked him.
He recalled, “When they took me to Chicago for the show, I said, ‘I don’t want to perform.’ I was sure I was going to die during that show, but I said no. My manager came and asked why I wasn’t getting ready, and I said, ‘I’m not going.’ ‘ I went to the washroom, brushed my hair and said, ‘How will I perform now?’ He told me to wear a hat and perform. I refused, grabbed my chair and started shouting that I didn’t want to perform. There was a coffee mug lying there and I hit it on my head.”
Honey’s sister also shared emotional details of the incident, recalling her disturbing phone call. Crying, she described how before the call ended abruptly he told her, “Please save me, Gudiya please save me.” Three hours later, they are informed that Honey has been admitted to the hospital and is receiving stitches for his injury.
Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous, directed by Mozes Singh, depicts the rapper’s struggles with mental health, drug addiction and his attempts at comeback. This film was released on Netflix on 20 December.
