Blake Lively is facing criticism for her It Ends With Us press tour. The actress was criticised for avoiding talking about the more sensitive aspects of the film and instead speaking in a light-hearted tone in interviews and press meets. There have been disappointing reactions on social media over the fact that she did not focus on domestic violence, which is the main theme of the film.
Now, Indian producer Rhea Kapoor has commented on Blake’s Instagram handle and commented on the film’s marketing campaign. However, Reddit did not like Rhea’s defence of the Hollywood actor. Rhea speaks out against hate against Blake Lively’s press tour
Rhea’s comment read, “The comments on the marketing of the film are so sad. Much power to Blake, Coleen and the producers for promoting this film in a useless way. As filmmakers, we know how hard it is to bring real women’s stories to the mainstream and share them with as many people as possible. Celebrate the women we see everyday who have gone through this and have come out stronger and embraced their light. Normalize telling their stories instead of throwing them in a box. You want to shame the actress for wearing pretty clothes for the press tour? What was she supposed to do? Wear a sweatshirt and hide in the house? This is a great way to ensure that stories like these are told even less. And so what if she promoted her brand, she’s a business woman and that press is making God judge us so.”
He praised Blake for making a film on domestic violence and wrote, “A movie about domestic violence has grossed $40 million.”
Reddit reacts to ‘tone deaf’ comment
The video and Rhea’s comments made their way to Reddit. One person wrote, “Why does it always have to be the Kapoors? Do they think they will catch Ryan and Blake’s eye and then Sonam will invite them for dinner?” Another wrote, “Rhea has completely missed the point for which Blake is getting hate.” One person commented, “Of course a privileged and tone-deaf person like Blake would have no problem with how Blake and her husband tried to make the film about themselves and romanticise the subject. Couldn’t have expected anything better from Ms Rhea Kapoor.”
“How confused can these people be? Same kind of birds live together,” another commented.
What’s happening with It Ends With Us?
It Ends with Us is based on Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel of the same name. It stars Justin Baldoni, Brandon Sklenar, Alex Newstedter, Jenny Slate, Hasan Minhaj and others. The story follows a woman who suffers domestic violence at the hands of her husband and finds solace in an old childhood friend.
However, Blake has been facing criticism for only mentioning her outfit, her newly launched haircare line and selling the film as a romantic drama. Justin Baldoni, who stars opposite her in the role of the abusive husband, has also directed the film. His approach towards promoting the film has been completely different. He has been talking in interviews about carefully dealing with sensitive issues like domestic violence in his film.
In addition, there are reports of a feud between Blake and Justin behind the scenes. Blake is reportedly telling people that Justin body shamed her and kissed her for longer than necessary in a scene. Justin has hired a crisis manager who has previously worked with Johnny Depp during his DV case with Amber Heard.
