‘Reviews are paid, everything is purchased’: Nikakhil Advani

In an era where independent movies often fight for attention, veteran filmmaker Nikkhil Advani has stepped up to increase the voice of Karan Tejpal, the director of the debut. Along with fellow Stalwarts Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motavne and Kiran Rao, Advani has come on board as the executive producer of the film ‘Stann’, who now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

While the participation of such a heavyweight can bring visibility, Advani believes that the ideal landscape will be one where Indi films do not require big names to pay attention. In a conversation with Hindustan Times, he said, “A big thing to celebrate will be that a film like theft does not need us.” “We are just putting our muscle or reliability behind this film.”

On disconnecting between audience and filmmakers

His support has a deep concern over disconnects between audience and filmmakers. Nikkhil saw, “I think there is a complete mistrust between the audience and the filmmaker right now. Originally, the audience is saying,” Whatever you say, we do not trust you. Reviews are paid, and everything is purchased. ” We are just wanting to say, ‘Believe us!’ ,

He says that today’s audience is more informed, which makes them difficult to affect. “The audience today, thanks to social media, has received so much information. They have found everything on their fingers,” he said.

Nikkhil also reflected on long -term division between independent and commercial cinema, a line that has been shifted for decades. From “parallel cinema” to “festival films”, the vocabulary may have changed, but the conflict remains.

He clearly shared, “The options are getting smaller. There is a lot of demand to suit the formula. When you want to do something from the beaten track and do something, you will really have to do something that is a marketing, whether it is an artist, a director, or a manufacturer.

The filmmaker also throws light on how the behavior of the audience has been developed after Co-Kovid. While cinema can be a hit in revenue, people are still ready to pay for entertainment, not always in films. “The same audience is spending money in comedy clubs and live shows,” he said. “Veer Das told me earlier that he used to visit India in 6 cities. Now, he does 60 cities.”

For nickel, the path forward is clear: filmmakers must attach and listen to their audience. Under the leadership of Abhishek Banerjee, ‘theft’ is their way of doing so, distributing the quality story and making back the trust that deserve cinema.
