The film was screened at the Sundance Film Festival 2024, where it won the Audience Award in the World Cinema Dramatic category and the Special Jury Award for acting for lead actress Preeti Panigrahi. It is directed by Shuchi Talati. It will release in France and the UK by the end of this month.

Touted as a “coming-of-age drama”, the film “is the story of 16-year-old Meera (Panigrahi) and her strained relationship with her mother during the hormonal ups and downs of nascent adulthood.” Set against the backdrop of a strict boarding school in the Himalayas, the film traces Meera’s journey of teenage love through the lens of societal judgment of female desires.
The film depicts themes of love and rivalry between mother and daughter, bodily autonomy and female awakening across generations. 37-year-old Chadha recently starred in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film. Hiramandi: The Diamond BazaarHe said it was a “very proud moment” for him that the film was releasing internationally.
