Washington: The demise of actor-director Rob Reiner at the age of 78 has left many in grief. Son of writer Carl Reiner, Rob Reiner first became known for his role as Meathead in the influential sitcom ‘All in the Family’. According to Variety, he directed classic films including ‘Stand by Me’, ‘This Is Spinal Tap’, ‘When Harry Met Sally…’ and ‘A Few Good Men’.
He was found dead in his home on Sunday afternoon With his wife Michelle Singer at his Brentwood home, According to variety.
The family of the late Norman Lear wrote in a statement, “The Lear family is devastated by the deaths of Rob and Michelle Renner. Norman often referred to Rob as his son, and their close relationship was extraordinary to us and the world. Norman wanted to remind us that Rob and Michelle spent every breath of their life trying to make this country a better place, and they did so through their art, their activism, their philanthropy, and their love for family and friends. Lynn Lear was very close to him and said, ‘The world is certainly darker tonight, and we are left deprived.’

Actor Paul Walter Hauser wrote, “Sad to lose my favorite director of all time. A Few Good Men is the reason I became an actor, and Rob’s filmography behind the camera is the reason I wanted to direct and still do.”
Paul continued, “I met Rob Reiner on a Sunday in 2010 at Los Angeles’ UCB Theater on the Franklin. I was very nervous to find out that he and his wife and daughter were sitting behind me. I volunteered my hand for a sketch with the show ASSCAT and somehow Leo syncopated The Verve’s song “Bittersweet Symphony” using my stomach instead of my mouth. It was beyond absurd but I did it. Couldn’t stop myself from thinking, “Committed to this. Rob Reiner is watching”.
“Awesome. I didn’t think today could get any worse,” Jon Cryer wrote on the threads.
“He was one of the greatest directors of our time. He was a friend. He was simply a beautiful human being. Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle were two of the most kind and caring souls you could ever imagine. He cared so much about those who had no voice. This loss is devastating. I can’t explain how much it hurts. Love you Rob and Michelle. Thank you for everything you gave us,” actor Josh Gad wrote on his Instagram handle.
Actress Virginia Madsen wrote on Instagram, “This is terrible news from Brentwood. God be with those who love them. Thank you Rob for giving us so much joy. Life and talent are always turned up to 11. z”l.
“I can’t stand the fact that one of the greatest filmmakers of all time is gone. We have lost one of the few good ones. RIP, Rob Reiner,” filmmaker Joe Russo wrote, remembering the Hollywood legend.

Musician Bear McCreary also paid tribute to the late actor, saying, “I am horrified and saddened by the tragic loss of one of cinema’s greatest directors. I can’t even begin to list the films this man has made on me throughout my life. We all know him. A legend. A true genius. Rest in peace, Rob Reiner.”
Renner and his wife are survived by their children, Jake, Nick and Romy. According to Variety, he was the adoptive father of actress Tracey Reiner, the daughter of his first wife, the late actress and director Penny Marshall.
