Tom Bombadil, J.R.R. A fan-favorite character from Tolkien’s film Lord of the Ringsis set to make its long-awaited debut in Season 2 on Prime Video rings of powerIn which Rory Kinnear is going to bring this character to life.

Tom Bombadil, who did not appear in Peter Jackson’s film adaptations, is introduced in the series when he encounters the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) and his Harfoot companions, Nori (Markella Cavenagh) and Poppy (Megan Richards) during their journey to eastern Middle-earth.
Show hosts J.D. Penn and Patrick McKay tell it Vanity Fair, “In our story, he’s gone to the land of Rhûn, which we know was once as green and beautiful as Eden, but is now a dead wasteland.” Bombadil’s mission in the series is to stop the desolation from spreading, showing a more active role than in Tolkien’s books. “Our Tom Bombadil is a little more interventionist than he is in the books, but only by 5 or 10 percent,” Penn explained.

Mackay said, “He’s whimsical and magical, almost to the point of stupidity. But he also has the wisdom of the ages and the deep emotional sources of music and ancient history and myth.” Kinnear’s portrayal is set to present this complex character in a Cornish accent, intended to evoke Britain’s ancient roots.
Second season of rings of powerThe season, which premieres on August 29, will also introduce several new characters and cast members, including Ciarán Hinds, Tanya Moodie and Sam Hazeldine, who replaces Joseph Mawle as the orc leader Adar. The season will also introduce the elf CÃrdan, who holds one of the three rings forged by Celebrimbor.

HarperCollins to re-release Bombadil to coincide with his on-screen debut The Adventures of Tom Bombadil In paperback on August 20, 2024. Chris Smith, Tolkien Publishing Director at HarperCollins, hopes that Kinnear’s portrayal will inspire audiences to explore Bombadil’s literary adventures, further enriching the beloved lore of Middle-earth.
