An Indian version of beauty and the Beast It will be presented in Bengaluru this Sunday. Topic Rupa VirupaIt is a production of Gobrahma Productions and Shivpriya School of Dance, and explores the power of love beyond outward appearances.
Like the French tale, the story is based on a village girl and a cursed prince whose external form has become animal-like. This reimagined version is a fusion of Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, folk dance and martial arts combined with theater and music.

The show, with over 40 dancers on stage, has been conceptualized and created by Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi dancer Sanjay Shantaram. Founder of Shivpriya School of Dance, Sanjay has blended tradition and innovation in his previous works as well mermaid And Apoorva Bharatam,
talking about the construction of form and form, Sanjay says the idea came to his mind when he saw the French story performed on Broadway in New York in 2004. “I realized that I wanted to present it to the Indian audience by integrating elements from our traditional forms of art, and thus Rupa Virupa came into being.”
“It is not only for connoisseurs, but also for people who do not follow classical dance forms, and this kind of show can be a way to introduce them to it.”
Sanjay says that each art form will have its own section in the theatre, and all the elements will come together in the finale. He further added, “The first part and the finale will be a mix of everything, presenting an integrated dramaturgy for the audience.”
