“I attended a workshop on conflict resolution and it changed my whole life,” he said.

The actor further added, “I didn’t know how to understand what I felt. Because when I was younger, I had a lackluster mindset. I didn’t know how to manifest that thing in your mind that makes you always want to win or be right.”

“One of the things I like about conflict resolution, and I know it’s not very glamorous, but what I like about it is that you can meet someone where they are, and you don’t have to be right or wrong,” Reynolds said. “You can disagree and still connect.”

Reynolds said he learned to deal with his emotions as an adult, but his children did not. “I have 4 kids and so far, none of them have shown any scarcity mentality, partly because they were born on ‘Easy Street,'” he said.

“Parents are very different these days. We’re a lot softer,” he added. “I don’t yell. I grew up like it’s crazy, it was an improvised militia.”

Reynolds explained how things have changed over time. “It’s like now I can look at all of my parenting resources and remind myself how to be completely kind,” he said.

More about Ryan

Ryan and Blake, who married in September 2012, have daughters James (9), Inez (7), and Betty (4), and son Olin (1).

In the past, they have been open about how they raise their kids and how having kids has affected them. Ryan said Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy gave him some of the most important advice about parenting.

“Shawn Levy actually told me something that’s always stuck with me, that people only talk about their wins. But I think it’s really important for your kids to know that you lose,” Ryan said, according to People.
