Saif Ali Khan attack: Mumbai Police takes one person into custody for questioning

Mumbai Police on Friday (January 17, 2025) detained a person in connection with the attack on Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence. The suspect has been brought to Bandra Police Station for further questioning.

Earlier on Saturday (January 17, 2025), Mumbai Police had said that they have taken possession of a part of the blade removed from Saif’s back, while efforts are still on to recover the remaining part.

Mumbai Police also said that the accused involved in the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was last seen near Bandra Railway Station and a search is on to nab him. Police suspect that after the incident, the suspect caught the first local train in the morning and went towards Vasai Virar. An official said that Mumbai Police teams are searching in Vasai, Nalasopara and Virar areas.

Officials said the city police have formed 20 teams to trace and arrest the infiltrator and are using their network of informers to trace him.

The police officer said the crime branch and the local police have gathered technical data, including that the actor was attacked during an “attempted theft” in his apartment located in the ‘Satguru Sharan’ building. How many mobile phones were active in the area.

He said with the help of forensic teams and dog squad, evidence has been collected from Khan’s house and building and searches have been conducted at several places in Mumbai to trace the attacker.

The 54-year-old actor suffered knife injuries at six places, including his neck, in the attack that took place around 2.30 am on Thursday. According to the doctors treating him, he was out of danger after an emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital, where he was taken. He is still in the hospital.

Police are examining CCTV footage from the building, in which the intruder, who was armed with a wooden stick and a long hexa blade, is seen running away after the attack.

The face of the young suspect is clearly visible in the footage captured at 2.33 am. He is seen wearing a collared brown T-shirt and a red scarf while coming down the stairs on the sixth floor of the building. The actor lives on the 12th floor.

Apart from Khan, complainant Eliama Philip, a 56-year-old staff nurse at the home, and a domestic help suffered blade injuries in the incident, an official said on Thursday.

The entire family – Khan, his wife and fellow star Kareena Kapoor, and their two sons, four-year-old Jeh and eight-year-old Taimur – were in the 12th-floor apartment along with their five domestic helpers. In a statement to the police, Jeh’s maternal grandmother Philip, who was the first to confront the armed attacker, said he demanded ₹1 crore.

Police officials said that the intruder did not forcefully enter the actor’s flat or break into it, but probably entered with the intention of committing robbery sometime during the night.

Hearing her scream, Khan and Kareena came out of their room. The intruder, who Philip said was aged between 35-40 years, attacked Khan with a knife.
