New Delhi:
Actor Samir Soni hit back at filmmakers Karan Johar and Farah Khan’s recent comments on rising costs, saying filmmakers should also take responsibility for rising budgets. In a recent interview Ujjwal Trivedi On his YouTube channel, Sameer reacted to KJo’s statement that the actor is asking for “sun, moon and earth”. Sameer Soni, who has been a part of the industry for over two decades, said, “You can’t sign a big star for Rs 100 crore and say that these people charge a lot of money. You also have some work to do [There are some shortcomings in you, too],
Sameer Soni’s comment comes after Karan Johar spoke to reporters. Faye D’SouzaLast month, he said that the cost of filmmaking has gone up. KJo said, “Inflation has gone up. There are about 10 viable actors in Hindi cinema, and they are all asking for the sun, moon and earth. So, you pay them; then you pay for the film, and then there are marketing costs. And then your film doesn’t show the numbers. Film stars asking for Rs 35 crore are starting off with Rs 3.5 crore. How does this math work?”
Sameer Soni disagrees with this and says that there are actors who are willing to work for less remuneration. He said, “There are people who can work for Rs 1 crore and even Rs 50 lakh. You have done it!”
Earlier, in May 2024, filmmaker Farah Khan had also spoken about the cost of the crew, and called it a “waste of resources”.I think the crew cost has become too much. An actress brings 9 January with her. An actor brings 8 January with him. It is a waste of resources. That is not visible in the film. That cost. So I think this needs to be controlled a bit. It is very costly for the producers. [An actress brings 9 people, an actor gets 8 people. That does not show on the film. It weighs down on the producers]Farah said during her appearance in Chinky Minky’s YouTube video, Twins encounter,
Farah Khan also shared her experience about the demands of actors, including the need for multiple vanity vans. She said, “Earlier, actresses used to change clothes behind trees, we used to keep towels for them. Now, each actor has about four vans for himself. One person. One is for his gym, one is for his staff, one is for him, one… then comes the food truck, that is different.”
