Hyderabad: Actor Allu Arjun is scheduled to appear virtually in Nampally court on Friday in the Sandhya theater stampede case. The actor has also filed a plea for regular bail and the same is likely to be heard later.
Allu Arjun was arrested on December 13 in a case registered against him in connection with the stampede that took place at the Sandhya theater on December 4 during the premiere show of ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’, in which a woman lost her life.
Nampally Court had sent the actor to judicial custody for 14 days. His lawyers approached the High Court, which granted him interim bail the same day.
The High Court had asked him to go to the trial court for regular bail. The actor, named accused number 11 in the case, was released from Chanchalguda jail the next day.
Since the 14-day judicial remand period ends on December 27, the actor will have to appear before the court for further proceedings.
Allu Arjun’s lawyers sought permission from the court for his virtual appearance on the grounds that his personal presence in the court could create a chaotic situation in the court premises.
The actor’s lawyers Niranjan Reddy and Ashok Reddy have filed the regular bail plea. Police had interrogated Allu Arjun on 24 December. He was interrogated for three hours at Chikkadpally police station on the basis of a 10-minute video prepared by the police by compiling CCTV footage of the incident.
The police had released the video to refute the actor’s claims about the incident.
Speaking in the Assembly on 21 December, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy strongly criticized Allu Arjun for visiting the theater without police permission and conducting a ‘road show’ before entering the theater and also while leaving the theater after the stampede Was.
A few hours later, Allu Arjun addressed a press conference and called the allegations false. He also said that he was hurt by the character assassination.
The day after the stampede, the police filed a case of culpable homicide against the theater management, Allu Arjun and his team.
