Sanjay also shared some pictures of his mother. In the first picture, young Sanjay is seen smiling with his mother. Nargis made her debut at the age of five in a small role in Talash-e-Haq (1935), but her acting career really began with the film Tamanna (1942). Her last on-screen appearance was in the psychological thriller film ‘Raat Aur Din’.
Nargis and actor Sunil Dutt fell in love with each other in 1957 after a fire broke out on the sets of their film ‘Mother India’ and she is said to have saved him. They are said to have grown close to each other while recovering from injuries.
The couple married on March 11, 1958. Her most famous role was that of Radha in the Academy Award-nominated Mother India (1957), for which she received the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Together with her husband, Nargis formed the Ajanta Kala Sanskriti Mandali, which employed many leading actors and singers of the time and organised stage shows in the border areas.
After marrying Sunil, Nargis distanced herself from films forever and started living a happy married life.
In the early 1970s, Nargis became the first patron of the Spastic Society of India and her work with the organisation earned her recognition as a social activist and she was later nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 1980.
Nargis was the second actress, the first being Prithvi Raj Kapoor, to be nominated, and she was in the Rajya Sabha for two years, 1980 and 1981. She was also awarded the Padma Shri in 1958.
Nargis died of pancreatic cancer on 3 May 1981. She was 51 years old when she breathed her last.
