Sawan 2024: Know what to eat, what not to eat and how to take precautions

The month of Saavan is very important for the devotees of Lord Shiva. Apart from fasting in this month, discipline should also be followed in eating and drinking.

According to Jyotishcharya Parduman Suri, it often rains in the month of Sawan. Therefore, it is natural for our body to change due to the external environment. During this time, we should include sattvic foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts and whole grains in our diet. Given the heat of the weather, it is advisable to consume plenty of water, juices etc. However, milk consumption should be avoided. Milk and curd contain a lot of microorganisms, so they are not consumed in the month of Sawan. If you are fasting, eat light food that is easily digested. This makes digestion easier and fasting persons should also take nutritious food along with light food. Those who do not fast should try to avoid consuming eggs, meat and alcohol in the month of Sawan.

To avoid affecting the digestive system, stay away from these things

According to Ayurveda, the digestive process slows down during the month of Sawan, so eating kadhi can cause problems. Also, it can increase air related problems. It is advisable to avoid green leafy vegetables like bitter gourd as well as vegetables like brinjal, radish, jackfruit, meat, fish and curd.

Young women should avoid pregnancy

The month of Sawan is the fifth month of the Hindu calendar, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Until a few years ago, there was a tradition of sending married women to their maternal home for the entire month of Sawan. Especially in North India, marriages of young people were postponed during the month of Sawan, as there is a high possibility of pregnancy in newly married couples. Young women who are capable of conceiving should avoid pregnancy during the month of Sawan, as it can cause many diseases to future mothers. Our elders knew this, so married women were sent to their maternal home for the entire month of Sawan.
