New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice on a petition challenging Karnataka’s “Additional Noyal Ban” on the screening of ‘Thug Life’-a film by unruly filmmaker Mani Ratnam and superstar Kamal Haasan.
A bench of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan sought reaction in the matter of Karnataka Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Ghar) and Director General of Police and posted a petition for further hearing on Tuesday (June 17).
During the film’s audio launch, Kamal Haasan claimed that “Kannada is born from Tamil”, increasing strong reactions in Karnataka.
M. of Bengaluru. The writ petition filed by Mahesh Reddy claimed that despite the certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the Karnataka government has prevented the dramatic release of thug life through oral instructions and police intervention.
Advocate A. representing the petitioner. Vailon said that such tasks have been given for an unconstitutional ban on free speech and expression under Article 19 (1) (A) of the Constitution.
The Karnataka government has completely “capital” for extremist elements, attacking linguistic minorities and calling theaters to burn theaters, presented to Valon.
According to the petition, the ban stems from a deliberate campaign of terror, which includes a clear threat of arson against the cinema hall, to target linguistic minorities for mass communal violence, and a chilling calls to repeat the previous-ante-tamil riots.
“This governance of intimidation is a direct, major violation of the fundamental rights of speech and freedom of expression (Article 19 (1) (A)) and to practice any profession (Article 19 (1))). More seriously, it is a calculating attack on the state’s secular clothes and public order,” said in the petition.
After the line on Hassan’s comment on the origin of Kannada language, the film’s producer, Raj Kamal Films International, filed a petition for protection in the Karnataka High Court. Although Karnataka HC suggested that Kamal Haasan issues an apology, but the actor-consentor has refused to do so. As a result of the actor’s refusal to release a lump sum apology, the film’s release in Karnataka has been postponed indefinitely.
