Selena Gomez has long been an advocate for mental health awareness. However, it wasn’t always easy for the 32-year-old pop star and actress to open up about her struggles. In 2022, he released his documentary titled Selena Gomez: My Mind and MeWhich provides a raw information about his six-year career. The Apple TV+ title showcased his mental troubles to the world in a new light as viewers got more depth into his 2018 episode of psychosis. Although she recovered from this, she was eventually diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which is believed to be the cause of the psychosis.
As the whole world knows, she came out publicly with her diagnosis at the age of 20, which her team advised her against, reports ETOnline. Earlier this year, she established loud and clear that she is “very proud” of her approach.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes 10 October as World Mental Health Day. This year, the Disney star revisited some of her past comments about her personal experience with mental health and how she’s learned to lean on her inner circle over the years, among other things.

Selena Gomez reveals how her bedroom causes poor mental health
As part of the ‘Key Conversation’ at Wondermind’s Mental Fitness Summit, Gomez talked about many aspects of her life. Her latest comments during the Wondermind discussion resurfaced her unpleasant memories of the bedroom, which is why she no longer sleeps there. “I’m a very anxious person,” he began. “It’s kind of a doomsday thing, and I think having positive conversations with yourself, even if it feels weird, is really impactful. Like before I even get out of the car, there’s going to be a lot of noises and stuff — if that’s the case, I’m not saying it’s going to happen every day — but I have to take a breath, and I have to say, ‘ It’s all a gift, and I may not be in the mood for it, [but] Every time I look at someone and finally make them smile, [it] Always makes my day no matter how I’m feeling.”
She added, “I’m a little different from my mom, because I spent so much time in my bedroom that I don’t even actually sleep in my bedroom anymore, because I associate it with very dark times.”
Gomez continued, “Having anxiety can be very debilitating sometimes, and yes, I didn’t want to leave my bed for years, and one of the reasons was because I wasn’t working. And you have to believe in yourself to do the work that will actually enlighten you a little bit.

“I guess it depends on how you use it [social media.] I think it’s important for reasons I won’t go into, to really help people,” she explained. “Then there’s also the downside where you’re getting stuff you don’t need to see that isn’t energizing your soul.”
He underlined the importance of limiting yourself when it comes to spending time on apps. “It’s important to make sure you make time for it, like, I’ll take a few days off,” she said while sharing her tips. “And then it’s also important to try to create and follow accounts that will bring fresh content that you really need and, I mean, I love quotes. I feel like, ‘This is what I needed to hear today.'”
During the conversation on Thursday, she seemed more positive about her current situation and ways to deal with mental troubles. “I don’t have a lot of people in my life,” he said. [but] I know who my inner circle is,” she said. “There is freedom in letting go of whatever is holding you back and holding you back.”
