Shahid Kapoor reflects on the controversial character of Kabir Singh
Speaking to Faye D’Souza, Shahid admitted that many of Kabir Singh’s actions were “unacceptable”, but he stood by the portrayal of the real-life character in the film. She elaborated that such tragic characters really exist and that despite obvious character flaws, women especially can root for them.
The actor said, “I wouldn’t accept such a boy, but do such boys exist? Do such girls fall in love with such boys? Yes, they do, so why can’t we make a film on it?” ” You go away, and you decide what you like and what you don’t, it’s really up to you as a viewer.”
When questioned about whether films can change people’s attitudes and actions, Shahid said that if someone watches Kabir Singh and decides they never want to meet a man like him, then they have “no problem with that.” “No”.
Apart from this, Shahid also made it clear that he does not want to criticize the people he plays onscreen. According to him, “My job is to present the character authentically, not to judge them or dictate what the audience should think.”
He further added, “My role is to reflect life and things that happen, good characters, bad characters, gray characters. If I was standing here defending my character saying he is the nicest guy. There are a lot of actors who play these ideal characters, but they do the exact opposite in their real lives and that’s a choice I want to be responsible for.
