Shalini brings out the red color, power and patriarch of Vijayakumar

At her residence in the city, Shalini Vijaykumar Cross Legged, and when she talks about her film, she is a calm picture. seeing red. This is irony, given what it looks like an Ode to make the film anger; A female anger that looks like a tick time bomb is ready to explode.

The 30 -minute film was one of the four selected for this year’s Mami select: was filmed on the iPhone initiative to show the emerging filmmakers across the country. The slapstick satire was set in 1986 and was completely shot on an iPhone 16 Pro Max, how history becomes chaotic due to the presence of a ghost in a regular morning in a traditional house. Kicker? Only the women of the house are able to see him, and for the fear of men, what to do about their intellect, what to do about it.

“Thoughts for Red watching red I was sprouted by being a black sheep of my family. Despite the privilege and freedom to work on my choice, many of my decisions have not been welcomed much. How my mother has influenced this and system, inspired me to write it, ”Shalini says.

Her relationship with her mother, and guilt, had to motivate her to introspect with wrestling. “More than generations women have dealt with disappointed anger. How would this if my mother, or any woman, just urged to scream in fear and shame, which we are often forced to catch?” She asks.

In Red watching redShalini says that men have adopted ‘philanthropic outpost’, and it reveals themselves how they react to three women from their orthodox family who try to hear their voice. “They are immediately told that all this is for their good. There are some handful of people who are asking me if I am targeting a community, but I am not. The issues you are watching in the film are systemic and it can be kept in any other power system, and it will still remain the same. I chose this setting because I am familiar with it.”

A clutter actors were shot in four days with a contingent of artists led by Shivani Harikumar, Sahna Sundar, Soundaria Saravanan, Preeti Bhardwaj, Manaswini Kannan and actor and comic Badawa Gopi, shooting the film in four days. Shalini was advised by director Wetrimaran, who says that her response was straight. “Working on a short time was meant that I often needed a shock, which was very bhogi. Their insight was valuable,” she says.

The film opens with bombing, thrown into chaos with the presence of ghosts with the family, and it, he shares, was a conscious writing option. She says, “Remove the audience with comedy, then punch them in the intestine with the drama when they expect at least it,” she says.

Shalini, who co-written the film with her partner Roasu, says that he was at a uniform position when he was angry about caste and gender power structures. “For example, we see that women’s labor is being exploited for nothing, and a woman at an attempt to speak anytime, she is asked to work hard and keep quiet. I may have set the story in the 1980s, but patriarchy is still very familiar,” she says.

Since its release on YouTube, Red watching red Looking close to 500K, and there are hundreds of comments from those who have discussed and debated many of its details and topics.

Encouraged by the reception of the film, the film expected to take her work to more festivals in Mumbai and in YouTube, and already take into account some ideas for her next project.

“I think the film has gained a lot of depth because how people have received it,” she says. She says, “The feedback is an eye -opening, and it has taught me how eagerly the audience is seen. This is something that I will remember and take forward, whatever I work further,” she says.
