In an interview with HauteCourse, Avika revealed that she was sexually harassed by a bodyguard.
“It happens in India, but it happened to me many times in Kazakhstan. You always have bodyguards with you, but there’s always someone who wants to be sneaky.” “When I turned around, it was none other than my bodyguard.” The actress said that the realisation was shocking as it revealed that the person who was hired to protect her could be the culprit.
Unfortunately, this was not an isolated incident. Sharing another incident, Avika said, “I remember when it was about to happen for the second time. This time, I held his hand.” He responded in shock, quietly asking, ‘What is happening?’ She responded with an apologetic gesture. “What could have been done? They don’t know how to speak English or Hindi, so I let it go. What else could I have done?” she explained.
At that time, she felt powerless and didn’t know what to do. However, things have changed since then, and she now feels more equipped to deal with such situations. She said, “If I had the courage at that time, I would have confronted many people. Now, I am confident that I can stand up for myself, but I hope this never happens.”
Avika also revealed how her mother had instilled in her the importance of being a child artiste from childhood, and advised her to do most tasks independently, including handling the microphone and allowing others to touch her only when necessary, such as for makeup.
