Mumbai: Fans of the 1997 blockbuster ‘Border’ have a reason to rejoice as the shooting of the much-awaited sequel, ‘Border 2’ has officially begun.
Earlier this year, Sunny Deol confirmed his return to the iconic role he played in the original, and now, the cameras are rolling for the much-awaited continuation of the patriotic war saga.
In a recent announcement shared by the makers of the film, a photo from the set of the film was posted, showing a clapboard indicating the start of production.
The post reads, “Cameras are rolling for Border 2! Directed by Anurag Singh, ‘Border 2’ is set to be a grand cinematic spectacle with a star-studded cast, including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty.
The original film, directed by JP Dutta, was a milestone in Indian cinema, depicting the India-Pakistan War of 1971, and introducing audiences to unforgettable characters such as Sunil Shetty’s portrayal of BSF officer Bhairav Singh.
A special moment in the development of the sequel is the casting of Ahan Shetty, who steps into the shoes of his father Suniel Shetty.
In an emotional Instagram post, Ahan shared his emotional connection with the Border franchise. Ahan wrote, “Border is more than a film – it is a legacy, an emotion and a dream come true.”
Reflecting on her deep connection with the film, she said, “Ironically, that’s how life works – my journey with Borders began 29 years ago, when mom visited dad on the set while I was pregnant. I grew up listening to the legendary stories of OP Dutta, uncle’s hand holding JP, and sitting next to @NidhiDuttaOfficial, I never realized how much those moments shaped my love for cinema and the Indian Armed Forces. The transfer of the baton from father to son is beautifully captured in a montage video shared by the makers, featuring iconic images of the original ‘Border’ along with Ahan’s emotional voiceover.
Apart from Ahan Shetty and Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh will also be seen in important roles in the film.
The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta, while Anurag Singh takes the director’s helm.
‘Border 2’ promises to offer a blend of high-octane action, engrossing drama and an unwavering spirit of patriotism.
