Popular television actress Shweta Tiwari revealed in an interview why it took her nine years to get a divorce from her first husband Raja Chaudhary. Galata IndiaShweta Tiwari claimed that Raja Chaudhary used to beat her regularly. The actress also revealed that Raja used to create ruckus on the sets of her serials. When asked what prevented her (initially) from coming out of this difficult relationship, Shweta said, “In my entire family, no one had ever done a love marriage, I did. There were caste problems in our family too, yet I did an inter-caste marriage. People had already started taunting my mother and judging my marriage. Also, if I had filed for divorce, it would have been a completely different thing. At that time it was not that I was not financially independent, but it was an emotional thing.”
Shweta further said, “I was worried about not having a father while my daughter was growing up. Later I realised that you can have a happy family only when you are mentally happy. It is not a good upbringing for your child to live in a chaotic family. If two people cannot live together, it is better to separate.” Raja Chaudhary and Shweta Tiwari were married in 1998. Shweta filed for divorce in 2007 on the grounds of domestic violence and Raja’s drinking problem. They have a daughter Palak Tiwari, who made her debut in a Salman Khan film.
