Hollywood veteran actress Sigourney Weaver will be honoured with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 2024 Venice Film Festival.
Weaver, who has been a part of several blockbuster projects in her career, including gorilla in the mist as well as franchises such as Ghost Busters, ForeignerAnd AvatarThe honour will be conferred during the 81st edition of the festival, which will be held from August 28 to September 7, said a press release issued on the festival’s official website.
Weaver said, “I am truly honored to receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement from the Biennale di Venezia. It is a privilege that I share with all the filmmakers and collaborators I have worked with over the years.”

Venice Film Festival director Alberto Barbera said that as a film star, Weaver “has built a bridge between the most sophisticated art-house cinema and films that connect with the public in a clear and original way, all the while remaining true to herself.”
He added, “As an authentic collaborator rather than a malleable tool in the hands of a director, she has contributed to the success of films by James Cameron, Paul Schrader, Peter Weir, Michael Apted, Roman Polanski, Ivan Reitman, Mike Nichols, Ang Lee and many others, each time imposing on her charismatic personality the imprint of a complex personality – sometimes contradictory but always authentic. Endowed with an extraordinary temperament, fragile but able to move delicately without weakness, she has created the image of a woman who is self-confident and determined, dynamic and resolute; at the same time, with endlessly different shades, she lets her intense magnetic, feminine sensibility filter through.”
Three-time Oscar nominee Weaver will next be seen in the film dust bunny Alongside Mads Mikkelsen The Gorge Which also stars Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy.
