Skincare craze among young girls: what parents need to know

In today’s social media-operated world, beauty trends spread like wildfire-and fast, young girls, some at the age of 8 or 10, are jumping on the Skincare bandwagan.

The 10-steep routine and affected by affecting the “glowing skin’s secrets”, children are being made aware of products that are often not designed for their delicate, developing skin. Dr. Urwashi Rana, Narayan Hospital, Ahmedabad shared the skincare craze among young girls.

What is happening due to skincare’s craze?

âž” Social media effects: Platforms such as Instagram, Tiktok, and YouTube are filled with beauty material creators – many of which are teenagers or young adults. Children idolize them and mimic their routine.

âž” colleague pressure: Children often want their friends what they have – it is a serum, lip mask, or trendy moisturizer.

âž” aesthetics appeal: Color packaging, scents, and affected marketing are designed to appeal to young eyes.

Why is this a concern

Skin sensitivity – Children and young teenagers have thin, more sensitive skin. Many skincare products aimed at retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids, salicylic acid and strong exfolies-all young that can disturb the skin, cause dryness, rashes and even prolonged damage.

Dissolution of natural skin obstruction – The heavy use of actives or many products can disrupt the natural barrier of the skin, causing issues of acne, brakeouts, and skin blockage that were not present earlier.

Psychological pressure – Focusing on “innocent skin” at an early age can lead to the issue of the image of the body and less self -esteem, especially if a child starts believing in his natural skin then it is not quite good.

What can parents do

Start with a conversation – Talk to your daughter openly about why she wants to use some products. Is this curiosity, colleague effects, or insecurity? Listen without decision, then guide with facts.

Set the basics of skincare – For children and young teenagers, a basic skincare routine is sufficient:

âž” Light cleanser (sulfate-free)
âž” light moisturizer
âž” Sunscreen (SPF 30+) if going out in the sun. All this needs the youngest skin!

Educated about marketing – Explain how beauty effects are often paid to promote products, and that the work that adults may not be suitable for children.

Age -Introduction to upper products – If your child is urged, involve a dermatologist or select soft, fragrant, dermatologist-tested products for children or twins.

Monitor screen time and online exposure – Determine healthy boundaries around social media. Encourage real -life hobbies and interests outside the digital world.

If your daughter is worried about skin such as early acne, dryness or eczema – then consult a pediatric dermatologist. In such cases, skincare can be medical and assistant under supervision.
Creating self-love and skin confidence from an early age is the most powerful beauty lesson that you can give.
