Social network sequel to be directed by Aaron Sorkin

Washington: Fans of ‘Social Network’ are for a treatment as his favorite film is coming back with a sequel. Aaron Sorkin has written a screenplay and is ready to direct the film’s follower, directed by David Fincher in 2010, the variety reported.

According to the outlet, Sorakin’s sequel will be based on Wall Street Journal ‘The Facebook files’, published in a series of articles written by Jeff Horovitz and in October 2021, which further highlighted the company’s internal functioning.

Actor Jesse Eisenberg starred in ‘The Social Network’ as Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, but the casting has not yet been announced for the sequel. The sequel is currently in development and is being produced by Todd Black, Peter Rice, Sorkin and Stuart Besar according to various types.

The original film was an important and commercial hit, which grossed USD 226 million at the global box office. It received eight Academy Award nominations, including the best pictures.
Sorkin’s victory for the best adapted screenplay (the film Ben Mezrich’s book “The Accidental Billion Ayers” was one of the three Oscars that the film took home in the next year.

According to the variety, in recent years, Sorkin has openly discussed his intentions to make a sequel. He started swimming the idea in 2021, saying, “What is happening with Facebook in these last few years, this is a story that is worth telling,” but around this time, he suggested that a sequel would only move forward when Fincher agrees when Fincher agrees to direct it.

Then, during a live recording of “The Town” podcast last year, Sorkin confirmed that he began to write about the recent deals of the social media company, stating the variety.

In previous interviews and media interactions, Sorkin was more upcoming about what he was trying to write: “Among other things, tuning its algorithm to promote the most divisive material. Because it is the same that will increase the engagement. This is the same that calls you inside the hallway of Facebook – ‘Unfinished skrol’.

Sorakin is also known for his customized screenplay in films acclaimed by critics like ‘Moneyball’, ‘Molly’s Game’ and ‘The Trial of the Chicago 7’.

‘The Social Network’ also starred Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake in the lead roles.
