Sona Mohapatra’s performance will be a tribute to the strong representation of Rima Das, Shuchi Talati and other women filmmakers at IFFM.
Sona Mohapatra is excited to perform at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) at the Palace Theatre in Australia on August 16. The organisers tell me that this is the 15th edition and they are celebrating over 20 female filmmakers. This is more than any other film festival in terms of diversity and inclusiveness. It is definitely an honour to be in front of all these great women whose voices have inspired people, says Mohapatra.

Her performance will be a tribute to the strong representation of female filmmakers such as Rima Das, Shuchi Talati and Diva Shah, whose work will be showcased at the festival this year.
Talking about her sets, the 48-year-old said, “Ambarsariya (Fukrey2013) would be the easiest song to sing. Melbourne has a large NRI audience and many popular songs from films are easy to sing. But I thought, I should prepare some more emotional songs.”

Mahapatra, who will be joined by Australian indigenous singer-songwriter Mitch Tambo during her performance, adds, “I’m going to be joining some of the best artistes from Australia. I’ll also be accompanied by Bharatanatyam and Kathak dancers.”
She is also excited that Missing Ladies (2023) is a part of the competition at the fest. “I have a beautiful song in this film, Saiyaan Ji. It is a nice feeling that the film is in the competition,” she said.
