New Delhi: According to officials cited by ANI, climate activist and renowned education reformist Sonam Wangchuk has been registered in Jodhpur Central Jail after his custody under the National Security Act (NSA). Wangchuk was arrested in Ladakh on Friday and was taken to Jodhpur late at night.
44 Leh arrested on violence; Wangchuk named “Chief Player”
The arrest comes in Leh on 24 September in view of violence, during which the BJP office caught fire amid protests. Four people died after the police set fire during unrest.

Addressing a press conference in Leh, DGP Jamwal said, “We have arrested 44 people so far … The main ring leaders have been given a minor. The chief player, Sonam Wangchuk has been sent to the NSA charges.”

Wangchuk’s KBC attendance and national recognition
Wangchuk increased to national fame after being depicted as an inspiration behind Aamir Khan’s character in the Bollywood film 3 Idiots.
In 2019, he along with one of his students appeared in the popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. During the show, a documentary at his school showed students playing ice hockey on a rink built inside the campus.
Wangchuk mesmerized the audience by reciting Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s poem and copied the dialogues of Amitabh Bachchan in French, Punjabi and Ladakhi. He went to win 50 lakh rupees in the showAccording to a 2017 report by Bharat TV.

Police accused of foreign links and funding irregularities
The DGP further alleged that Wangchuk was toured to Bangladesh, citing participation in a Don Media event in Pakistan with Pakistan.
