Sonu Nigam washed the feet of senior singer Asha Bhosle as a mark of respect during a book launch event. Asha’s biography, titled Swaraswamini Asha, was launched at a star-studded ceremony on Friday. Sonu washes Asha’s feet, kisses them and bows to her
In a video shared by news agency ANI on X (formerly Twitter), Sonu was seen sitting near Asha Bhosle’s feet and washing her feet. Some people gave him a small stool, water, a plate and a towel.
First of all Sonu kissed Asha’s feet and covered his face laughing. Then he washed Asha’s feet and held her sari. Sonu also wiped Asha’s feet. Before leaving the stage, Sonu folded his hands looking at Asha and also bowed to her.
Fans react to Sonu’s move
Asha wore a printed white saree and matching blouse for the event. Sonu was seen in a yellow kurta and white pyjamas. Reacting to the video, a fan said, “This is beautiful. Totally Indian. These are the things that make us proud to be Indian.”
One person wrote, “Heart touching. Proud of you Sonu Nigam. Truly amazing.” Another tweet read, “Salute to Sonu Nigam! What a great moment. Two living legends. Wish Lata ji was alive and on this stage.”

Sonu also gave a speech
According to ANI, Sonu also delivered an emotional speech in which he praised Asha and her late sister, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, for their immense contribution to Indian music. Mohan Bhagwat spoke about the Mangeshkar family’s dedication to both music and patriotism. According to the report, he highlighted the importance of music’s role beyond entertainment and stressed its potential to benefit society.
About biography
The compilation of works by 90 authors is going to be a treat for Asha’s fans. It reportedly includes rare photos showing the singer’s journey and growth as an artist. Jackie Shroff, who was present at the launch, paid his respects to Asha by touching her feet. He also presented a flower vase to the legendary singer as a mark of respect.
During the event, Asha also recalled her association with Hindutva ideologue VD Savarkar. Her brother, music director Hridaynath Mangeshkar, was also present at the ceremony.
