Sonu Nigam, who has had a long-standing working relationship with composer-singer AR Rahman, recently revealed about the music legend’s personal qualities that make him stand out in public.
Sonu Nigam said that AR Rahman is a complete professional and he never lets his personal relationships come in the way of his work. Sonu Nigam also recalled that AR Rahman allowed him to exercise his creative freedom while recording the first song for the film Dawood in conversation with O2 India.
“He doesn’t have any relationships. He’s not the kind of person who has relationships. He doesn’t open up to anyone. At least, I’ve never seen that. Probably, he opens up to his old friends, Who know him as Dilip.
Sonu Nigam said about Ustad, “But I have not seen him opening up or having any relationship with anyone. He is not a sociable person. He is just busy in his work.”
Sonu Nigam also said that AR Rahman does not speak bad about anyone and he focuses on his work and prayers. “He does his work and his prayers. He doesn’t treat anyone badly. He won’t hurt anyone. He won’t speak ill of anyone.”
“He is aloof from all this. He should be attached to his family but I have not seen him be very friendly with others,” he said. He further added, “He doesn’t let anyone come close to him. That’s the way it should be,” Sonu said.
During a tour in America, Sonu Nigam recalled how they had exchanged pleasantries with each other. “He doesn’t know how to gossip, and it’s not his flaw. That’s just the way he is. He doesn’t want to know anything about me or anyone else and he doesn’t want anyone else to know about him. He said, ‘ ‘He is a unique personality.’
AR Rahman’s personal life came under scrutiny when he announced divorce from wife Saira Banu in November after being together for three decades. During that phase, old interviews of AR Rahman’s brother-in-law Rahman resurfaced online, where he also claimed, the music legend does not want to talk much and he is not into any kind of “gossipy”.
