Sonu Nigam will not be invited for events, should apologize: Kannada Film Chamber

The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) decided to be “non-co-operative” with Sonu Nigam after ending the dispute in the state on Monday (May 05, 2025). The popular playback singer received a backlash after rejecting the demand of a fan to sing Kannada songs during his recent concert at East Point College in Virzonagar, Bangalore.

During his performance, Sonu responded to the demand that he did not like the voice of the crowd belonging to the crowd and compared the incident in Jammu and Kashmir to the recent Pahgam terror attack. The reference to the singer for a terrorist attack harassed Kannadigas, resulting in a case booked on him by a Canadian outfit for “provoking language hatred”.

The police have sent a notice to the singer to appear before him for questioning.

KFCC President M Narasimalu told reporters at a press conference that the chamber has decided to cut all kinds of communications with the singer until he renders “public forgiveness”.

“Shri Sonu Nigam will not be invited to any Kannada film related events. We have written to the office of Police Omiser not to allow any Sonu Nigam concert in Bangalore,” Narasimhu said that no steps have been taken to ban the singer from Kannada film industry.

“Audio label to discuss the issue in the chamber, there will be a meeting with producer, music directors, singers and directors. Some upcoming films may have their songs. It is not right from us to the release of those films until the producers are not ready to record the tracks with new singers,” Narasimalu said.

Producer Uday Ke Mehta, who was at the press conference, slammed Sonu Nigam’s statement during his concert. “He has received a lot of love from the people of Karnataka. They have hurt them all with their words. Nobody with a stable mind will not compare a request for a terrorist attack for a song. As artists and fans of cinema, we deserve respect. His recent video does not seem like an forgiveness. It seems like a justification for his act,” Mehta told a Hindu.

Responding to resentment, Sonu Nigam said in a video that he felt that “4-5 thugs in the crowd had been threatened.” My show did not even start and these people saw me in a rude manner and asked me to sing Kannada songs. No artist should allow his audience to threaten him or him, “he said, he said that he always gets” sweet and humble “people from Karnataka.

Sonu Nigam also talked about the comments of his Pahalgam terror attack, making the fans furious. “We need to remind such people that in Pahalgam, people were not asked about their language before being killed.”
