Detective stars, the latest project produced by the detected Indian filmmaker Nila Madhab Panda (I am, Kadvi Hawa) and the camera D’Or winner directed by the winner Vimukthi Jaysundra (The Forcecan Land), has been officially selected for the new launch competition section in the 30th Bussain International Film Festival (BIFF).
Marking an important milestone in its history, Biff has infected in its 30th year with its long-finished non-practical competitive format into a full competitive structure. The new section will include 14 titles for Busan Awards in five categories: Best Film, Best Director, Special Jury Award, Best Actor and Artistic Contribution. The winners will receive a specially designed trophy by the famous Thai filmmaker and artist Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
A story lies in fear, freedom and humanity
Detective stars narrated the story of Anandi (Indira Tiwari), who is a biofypaire, who travels to Hanuman Island so that he can perform his father’s funeral. His journey takes an unexpected turn when he is placed in a remote hotel in a distant hotel, caused by an epidemic due to a machine-headed world. As a mysterious star begins to follow her, she runs away and takes refuge with a mother and her transgender daughter.
Considering the themes of the film, director Vimukthi Jayasundara said: “My film represents how, the device-control world we were familiar with the breakdown in an unknown, inconvenient reality. It is a liberation film that is spiritual in nature.
A spiritual journey in film production
Producer Neela Madhb Panda, known for socially relevant cinema, described the project as a transformative experience: “The film is like a spiritual journey. The virus, nature, deep reflections of the vimukshi on AI, and their poetic relations with the metaphysical world work on a powerful and time.
Stellar cast and crew
The film stars Indira Tiwari (Gangubai Kathiawadi, Gambhir), Kaushakya Fernando and Samanali Fonseka, a prestigious dress actors. It is produced by Vincent Wang (young, stray dogs) and co-produced by Arafi Lamba, Katrina Chiple (Love, The Road to Mandle), and Mitchell Clean.
Members of the leading crew include Ishit Narayan (Gulmohar, close single) as a cinematographer, Alokanand Dasgupta (Holy Sports) and Saman Alvitigala as music composer.
A new chapter for Elenora images
Steering stars have also marked the onset of new material slate for Panda’s studio Elionora images. The slate consists of three narrative characteristics and two documentaries. The Panda himself is ready to direct one of these upcoming projects, which is a creative departure from his previous tasks, which will begin production in early 2026.
With the stars representing India on a global stage in the landmark competitive version of Biff, Panda and Jaisundara bring together a mixture of spirituality, technology and human flexibility together, confirming the role of cinema as a place for intensive reflection and story.
