Mike Ross, aka Patrick J. Adams, recently shared his “terrible” first meeting with Mike’s girlfriend, Rachel Zane, aka Meghan Markle, his co-star on the popular legal drama Suits, in a candid conversation on his podcast, Sidebar: A Suits Watch, which he co-hosts with Sarah Rafferty aka Donna. The legal drama aired from 2011 to 2019.
Their on-screen chemistry became one of the central elements of the show, but according to Adams, their connection was evident long before they began working together on Suits. “Meghan and I had done a terrible, terrible pilot together before,” Adams recalled laughing about the failed project.
“There was also a romantic relationship being established in that particular pilot’s pilot. And then we never saw each other again. The pilot failed. It was horrible and gone. And so we never saw each other and never spoke to each other.

Adams discusses Meghan’s audition for Suits
Adams was the first person to be cast in the legal drama, and she went over chemistry with potential actresses for the role of Rachel Zane. During these callbacks, Adams was surprised to see Markle again. “She was right there. And he said, ‘Hi.’ And I said, ‘Oh my God!’ It’s great to see you,” Adams said.
He said, “If I remember correctly, it was absolutely clear from the moment we read the chemistry that she was going to get the role.”
“I think just us getting to know each other and just being chill and not being nervous just getting to know each other, really helps read that chemistry,” adding, “And it’s absolutely It was obvious that when there was a natural connection between us we went into that room.”

Recalling Meghan’s audition, Adams commented, “It was a lot easier than anyone else’s audition.” He praised Markle’s performance both at the audition and later on the show, saying, “She crushed it, and she crushed it on the show.”
