Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 also stars Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh in lead roles. It is produced by Gulshan Kumar and T-Series in association with JP Dutta’s JP Films.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film has recorded one of the biggest openings in recent times. He also revealed that the war drama has collected a nett of Rs 32.10 crore in India on its opening day.

Meanwhile, the Center on Sunday announced the recipients of the prestigious Padma Awards 2026, with Dharmendra, who died on November 24, 2025, being awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian honour.

Born on December 8, 1935 in Nasrali village in Ludhiana district of Punjab, Dharmendra Kewal Kishan Dewal was the son of Kewal Kishan Singh Dewal, a school headmaster.

Inspired by his deep love for cinema, Dharmendra moved to Mumbai and made his film debut in the 1960 romantic drama ‘Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere’ directed by Arjun Hingorani. Although the film was a commercial failure, it marked the beginning of his journey into the world he had long desired to be a part of.

His first commercial success came in 1961 with Ramesh Sehgal’s ‘Shola Aur Shabnam’, followed by notable hits such as Mohan Kumar’s ‘Anpadh’ (1962) and Bimal Roy’s ‘Bandini’ (1963), the latter winning the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. In 1965, Dharmendra achieved another major success with Ram Maheshwari’s ‘Kajal’, starring Meena Kumari, Raj Kumar and Padmini.

His romantic hero image in the 1960s and early 1970s was defined by his handsome looks, charming smile and expressive eyes, which deeply impressed audiences. Films like ‘Aayi Milan Ki Bela’, ‘Aankhen’, ‘Neela Aakash’, ‘Aaya Sawan Jhoom Ke’, ‘Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya’, ‘Mohabbat Zindagi Hai’, ‘Pyaar Hi Pyaar’ and ‘Mamta’ showcased his ability to portray emotional depth, longing and tenderness effortlessly.

In 2023, she surprised everyone with her brilliant performance in the film ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ directed by Karan Johar. With her role she truly proved that age is just a number. A much-talked-about highlight of the film was his kiss with co-star Shabana Azmi, a moment that many praised in later years as a tender, progressive portrayal of love, and which left audiences pleasantly surprised.

She was also seen in Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon’s romantic comedy ‘Teri Baton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’, which reminded the new generation of her effortless charm.

His last film ‘Ikkis’ was released on January 1, 2026, a few days after his death.
