Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Sunny Deol, who will be seen in “Jat” next time, said on Monday that producers in the north should learn from their southern counterparts how to make cinema with love.
Deol-Starre “JAAT” is produced by Hyderabad-based Mythri filmmakers, known for the superhit “Pushpa” franchise starring Allu Arjun.
Set for release on 10 April, “Jat” is directed by Gopichand Malinani (“Veera Simha Reddy”) and is also supported by the People Media Factory.
Deol, who made his grand comeback in films with “Gadar 2” of 2023, praised the producers of the upcoming film at his trailer launch event on Monday.
“My producers are very good. I want Bombay’s producers (from them) to learn. The actor told reporters here.
“I told him (makers),” Let’s do another film. “
Deol was popular in films like “Ghatak”, “Arjun”, “Tridev”, and “Vishwatma”, Deol, said that Hindi filmmakers sometimes forget their roots and are influenced by the West.
“The South Films maintains all those things and in this way their films become pan-India. Every person across the country is related to them. I believe that we should also follow this in Hindi (cinema), and return to our roots. For example, my films like ‘Gatak’, ‘Damini’, and ‘Arjun’ should be made again.
When a reporter asked where Hindi cinema was lagging behind, the actor said that this was not the case.
“Earlier, the producer liked a story when the director narrated it. They would commit themselves to make it. Later, the corporates came in and then it became very commercial. In all this, people lost interest (in filmmaking). Everyone suffered. Everyone who was hungry (for film production) was left behind.” He said that a sudden scenario for filmmakers would not suddenly change, he said that his producers in Hyderabad gave all freedom to the director.
“There is no misuse of directors. Yes, the money being spent is more, but this is because they want to uplift the scenes. This patience is important.” Would he like to play negative characters like his younger brother and “Animal” star Bobby Dole? Deol said: “I would not call it negative. I would call it just a character. If I get that kind of character, I would definitely like to do it. But the director and manufacturers need the courage to do so with me … When I joined the industry, I had very few options.
“Even if I go to do that kind of cinema, people would say that the work was good, but they did not enjoy it. The image also takes everything, it is a problem with me. But I am doing one or two films like this. If we stop measuring cinema by box office yardsticks, any good film will become a hit.” The actor also said that all three Deols-Sunny, Bobby and his father and cinema veteran Dharmendra-Fir would prefer co-star in a film. The three have worked on “Apne” and “Yamla Pagla Deewana” franchise.
He said, “The story should be good so that we can come together.”
According to the manufacturers, “Jat” is a high-octane drama that has large action sequences from life. It will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages.
Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Singh, Saimi Kher and Regina Cassandra also scored the film’s actors.
