Apple TV+ releases the trailer for its ten-episode dark comedy mystery series sunny. Created by showrunner and executive producer Katie Robbins, executive producer and director Lucy Cherniak, and executive producer Rashida Jones, the series also stars Jones alongside Hidetoshi Nishijima, Joanna Sotomura, Judy Ong, Yu, Annie the Clumsy, and Jun Kunimura. sunny It will have its global premiere on Apple TV+ with the first two episodes on Wednesday, July 10, followed by a new episode every Wednesday until September 4, 2024.
According to a statement from the makers, “sunny Jones plays Suzy, an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan, whose life is changed when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As “consolation” she is given Sunny, one of a new line of household robots created by her husband’s electronics company. Although Suzy at first resents Sunny’s attempts to fill the void in her life, they gradually develop an unlikely friendship as together they uncover the dark truth about what really happened to Suzy’s family, becoming dangerously entangled in a world Suzy never knew existed.”
Produced by A24, sunny Robbins wrote and executive produces through his company Babka Pictures. Cherniak is executive producing for Poppycock Pictures. A24 and Jones also serve as executive producers. The series is based on the book “Dark Manual” by Japan-based award-winning Irish author Colin O’Sullivan.
