Creator of Janaki vs Kerala StateThe controversial Malayalam film starring Saresh Gopi and Anupama Parmeswaran has announced the OTT release of the film. Praveen Narayanan-directed court room drama will premiere on ZEE5 on Independence Day on 15 August.

Zee5 unveiled a new trailer of the film to announce the news. “Janaki, a woman, a woman silenced by the society, grows up with unwavering courage to take herself in the state. As the court turns into a battlefield, her truth begins to shake the law and the foundation of the law,” reads the logeline by Streamer. Anupama played the role of a survivor, Janaki Vidharan from sexual harassment, while Suresh played the role of her lawyer, David Abel Donovan.

Janaki vs Kerala StateWhich was released in theaters on July 17, made headlines for several weeks with its release. After the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the film disputed that the producers demanded that the producer should change the name of Janaki’s title character as well as the name of Janaki’s title, obviously because the name also refers to the Hindu deity Sita.

Later, the CBFC Amendment Committee also rejected certification for the film. The decision created a political uproar in Kerala, in which many film bodies organized a protest against the censor board. Saying that films wearing similar names were released earlier, the Kerala High Court sought clarification from the CBFC and asked whether the suggestions made are a challenge for freedom of creative expression.

Also, Divya Pillai, Srithi Ramachandran, Oscar Ali, Madhav Suresh Gopi, and Baiju Sandosh also have a music score by Jiresh Narayanan and the background score by Gibran. Rendive is a cinematographer, while Samajit Mohammed is the editor. Jee Fanindra Kumar produced the film under the Cosmos Entertainment banner.
