Talking about the origins of her creative pursuits, Mira says, “My father is from Afghanistan; my mother is from Russia and there’s a lot of music and dance between those two cultures.” She said she had schooled in theater and plays the piano. “I’m very grateful for my family of mixed background; we fled war and Afghanistan in the early 1990s. My father always chose his own path and didn’t care about religious or cultural differences. And then we moved to Sweden. I come from an area of Sweden that is diverse and has immigrants from all over the world, including Iraq, Bosnia, and Bangladesh.”
It was this openness to exploring new cultures, food and languages that attracted Meera towards Hindi cinema. “I grew up watching Bollywood films and can speak a little bit of Hindi,” she says, reminiscing about her five years in Mumbai, where she tried her luck in films. “I came to Mumbai in 2014 and left India just before the pandemic. What I love about Bollywood is that it’s not just about acting, but also about dancing and singing. The years were challenging; with all these auditions and casting calls you probably face more rejections in a week than some people experience in their lifetime. But it made me resilient and without that experience I wouldn’t be where I am today. I am,” she adds.

The journey to Melodifestivalen 2025 was not easy for Mira. She started sending him recordings of her songs in 2019 and continued to do so. “With ‘Hush, Hush’, the stars just aligned. I like to see our art as global. Sweden is the biggest exporter of pop music in the world. We have some of the greatest producers and songwriters who have created hit songs for decades. So you get a chance to work with these amazing songwriters and producers who can create hooks and hits. At the same time, I incorporate elements from where I come from – these They could be the equipment we use in Afghanistan or India,” she adds.
