Actress Tabu’s first look as Sister Francesca in Dune: Prophecy is finally revealed. And the actress has confessed that she said yes “without blinking” to Denis Villeneuve’s prequel series to the blockbuster Dune films. In the first look, Tabu is seen wearing black clothes and her hair is tied in a ponytail. She looks very emotional.
Tabu spoke about her character
The actor is extremely excited to enter the Dune universe, and is glad that the producers trusted him with the role.
“It has been an extraordinary experience for me ever since I was approached to play the role of Sister Francesca in ‘Dune: Prophecy’ and I said yes without blinking an eye,” Tabu said in a statement.
He added, “It is such a great joy for an actor to be trusted by the creators to play a character that is so interesting, intriguing, intelligent and emotionally powerful. Needless to say, it was a very interesting process to dive into the depths of her complexity. I am very excited to bring her story to Indian and global audiences through JioCinema. Stay tuned as you will see me a little later in the season, but the Dune universe is so rich in its history and intrigue that I can’t wait for audiences around the world to see it!”
As Sister Francesca, Tabu is described as a “strong, intelligent and charming” character who leaves a lasting impression. According to the logline, “Once the emperor’s greatest love, her return to the palace upsets the delicate balance of power in the capital”.
Dune: More about The Prophecy
Set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, Dune: Prophecy is the story of two Harkonnen sisters who fight forces that threaten the future of mankind and found a famous sect that would come to be known as the Bene Gesserit. The series will stream exclusively on JioCinema Premium in India. However, the release date has not been revealed yet.
Along with Tabu, the cast of Dune: Prophecy includes Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sophie Bosnina, Josh Heston, Chloe Lee, Jade Anoka, Foillan Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason and Shalom Brune-Franklin.
The series is set 10,000 years before the events of Frank Herbert’s seminal novel “Dune,” which Denis recently adapted into a two-part film. In the two films, to be released in 2021 and 2023, Charlotte Rampling plays the Reverend Mother Mohiam, the Emperor’s Bene Gesserit truthteller, while Lady Jessica is the Bene Gesserit mother of protagonist Paul, played by Timothée Chalamet.
Alison Schapker is the showrunner and executive producer alongside Diane Ademu-John, who co-developed the series. It is co-produced by HBO and Legendary Television.
