According to the outlet, Perry, a lifeguard for Ocean Safety for the City and County of Honolulu, was seriously injured while surfing near the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Honolulu Ocean Safety Acting Chief Kurt Leger paid tribute to Perry, “a lifeguard loved by all,” who died at the age of 49.
