The strums and creaks of Siñor’s guitar often spark discussion.
The Tamil independent musician, who writes on familiar themes such as love and a mind lost in thoughts, is back on the scene after a gap of one and a half years.
He will be performing crowd favourites like ‘Ennum Enna’ and ‘Ponnira Malai’ at Barracuda Brew on June 14, accompanied by two other veteran musicians and friends – Vinay R (drums) and Arvind Murali (bass). New material has also been provided, given the break.
While most listeners tune in to Siñor to hear the gentle music whose lyrics inspire us to engage with ideas, all of which are consequences of today’s times, the artist says he has also received praise from listeners in North India who don’t speak a word of Tamil. “I mostly don’t know how to react,” he says.

Siñor has rarely sung in front of an audience since the start of 2023. One magical experience last year included singing under the stars during the Perseid meteor shower, but that was a one-time thing.
During this time he received many messages and requests from fans, seeking explanations for his absence. He is most alive during live performances. What has kept him busy?
Apart from actively working on new music, Siennaur is creating a magical mix of funky sounds through his new app, Metropolitan Kuthadi. “I am working on an electronic project – an app where new sounds can be sampled with electronic sounds,” he says. The app plays with electronic music, a bit of neo folk and psychedelia. The idea behind it is to have fun while creating catchy music.
The app will play a crucial role during the concert. He added that the reunion of the three artistes who will be performing on stage will be an asset as the musicians are familiar with each other and have known each other for quite some time. They are practising to ensure that all the new material creates a rhythm that promotes head nodding and syncing.
The Chennai-based musician, who played keyboards at the age of seven and then picked up the guitar, has been writing songs since 2009. “The songs which were initially written in English soon got translated into Tamil as I was more comfortable in Tamil. I try to keep the lyrics simple. The songs go through several drafts until I find one that I like,” says Sienor.

Some songs are inspired by events, while others are crafted out of inspiration. For instance, ‘Muyal Thottam’ came into being because the composer read a line by philosopher J Krishnamurthy. “It prompted the reader to observe his thoughts like one observes rabbits playing,” he says.
Sienna says there are talks going on for a tour in the future as he has listeners in Tamil diaspora cities across the world, including Canada, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. However, for now, Chennai audiences will mostly see him on stage.
@Barracuda Brew, Nungambakkam, June 14, 7pm onwards. Tickets start at ₹699. The event is organised by Curiosity.
