Think of modern life based on music and Tanya Shankar’s recently released EP comes to mind cyberfantasy Which is about love in the age of social media. The Bengaluru-based musician shared how social media blurs the boundary between imagination and reality.
“I would meet someone online and talk to them, but would later wonder if this person was really who they were portraying themselves to be. This begs the question – is that who they are or is it an exaggerated version of themselves? The title track ‘Cyber Fantasy’ is about falling in love with an online version of someone who may not even exist,” says Tanya.
Talking about the inspiration behind this five-track EP, Tanya explained how she realized that people spend most of their time online. “I saw how the Internet affects our personal relationships. We are now citizens of the online world; We basically stay there most of the time. I wanted to explore this through my music and that’s where the idea came from.”
At a time when we are drowning in the abundant content available online, one of the most relevant problems facing the generation is doomscrolling (spending excessive time viewing news, especially negative news, on the web and social media ) media). “One track in the EP is titled ‘Dopamine’ and it’s about doomscrolling, and the dopamine effect scrolling gives you when you’re online for too long.”

For Tanya, everything she creates comes from her personal experiences, “I can only write about something when I’ve actually experienced it and been able to look back,” she adds. Are.
“I would like to credit my mentor and manager Richard Andrew Dudley who co-composed and produced cyberfantasyThe two other musicians are also amazing – Jaime Dudley who programmed the drums and Yogesh Pradhan who programmed many of the instruments on the EP, including guitar and bass,” says the artist, who has two other albums to his credit as well as a few singles. And credit goes to the EP for that.
Tanya admits that at the age of 19, it can be difficult to balance college and her passion. “Even though I’m used to it by now, it doesn’t make it any easier. With college, I always have a deadline and I have to make time for the studio as well, but I enjoy that too.
Among emerging musicians, Tanya says she listens to Maggie Rodgers a lot. “I also enjoy great people like Tina Turner and Amy Winehouse.”
Like all emerging artists, Tanya also has a dream venue, “I would really like to perform at Wembley Stadium, Royal Albert Hall and Madison Square Garden one day – for me, these are the holy trinity of venues.”
