Taylor Swift fans say ‘well done’ as Scooter Braun announces retirement from music management

Scooter Braun, the owner of music talent management agency SB Records, has officially announced his retirement from music management. It’s time to celebrate for Taylor Swift fans, who have joined the online frenzy over the ex. The long-running feud between Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun hit the headlines a few years ago, over the ownership of the masters of her first six albums. (Also read: Who is Scooter Braun? Scooter Braun had a public feud with Taylor Swift over ownership of her first six albums.

On Monday, Scooter shared a carousel post with a text message announcing his retirement. “23 years. That’s how long I’ve been a music manager. After 23 years, this chapter as a music manager is over.” Over the years, he has managed the likes of Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato and J Balvin.

However, it was his controversial and public feud with Taylor Swift, where he acquired the rights to Swift’s first six albums, that attracted substantial media coverage. Taylor had written a scathing post over Scooter selling her masters, calling him a “relentless, manipulative scoundrel”. This also informed the pop singer’s decision to release re-recorded versions of her six albums in order to regain control of her music.

Reactions from fans

Reacting to Scooter’s retirement, one fan wrote: “Announcing Taylor’s version of Reputation tonight!” A second fan wrote, “I haven’t seen TL so united by someone’s downfall since Queen Elizabeth passed away, because this guy is universally hated.” One comment read, “And I’d say good riddance!” “Karma is a comforting thought!” another comment read.

Meanwhile, last month Variety reported that the feud between Taylor and music producer Scooter will be featured in a docuseries commissioned by Warner Bros. Discovery UK & Ireland. The two-hour-long episode, titled Taylor Swift vs. Scooter Braun: Bad Blood, will premiere in June. It will feature legal experts and journalists, as well as people close to Taylor and Scooter, who will discuss the factors that led to Scooter purchasing her music catalogue from Big Machine Records’ Scott Borchetta for $300 million in 2019.
