Telugu actor Vijay Devarakonda booked under SC/ST Act for derogatory remarks against tribals

The Telugu actor Vijay Devarakonda has been booked by the Redergum Police under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Prevention) for allegedly making derogatory remarks against tribal communities during a public event.

The case was booked after a complaint filed by Nenwath Ashok Kumar Naik, the state president of the tribal communities, citing the comments made by the actor on April 26, 2025 during the pre-relaxation event of the film. Retro,

According to the first information report (FIR), seen by HinduThe actor reportedly referred to tribal people as intelligence and lack of general knowledge and compared them to Pakistani terrorists. The complainant said, “He insulted his tribal community, saying that he had beaten him 500 years ago without any intelligence and minimal general knowledge. In addition, he made comments compared to Pakistani terrorists,” the complainant said.

Attacking YouTube link in a written complaint, Mr. Naik said that these comments were not only aggressive, but were deeply derogatory to the dignity and self-esteem of the tribal community. He said that the material was shared in several media channels, in which YouTube was also widely criticized through the channel of Star Entertainment.

Meanwhile, earlier in May, SR Nagar Police registered a case against Vijay under the SC/ST (Prevention of Prevention) Act, claiming that their comments were deeply aggressive and had an amount to reduce the tribal population. Some time later, the actor issued a statement on his X account, which made it clear that “there was no intention of hurting or targeting any community, especially our Scheduled Tribes, which I respectfully respect and consider an integral part of our country.”

“I was speaking about unity – how India is one, our people are one, and how we should move together. In which world I urge to stand as a country, deliberately discriminate against any group of Indians – all of whom I see as my family, like my brothers,” reads the actor’s statement.
