‘The Acolyte’ series review: A gripping thriller from a galaxy far, far away

Like all good stories, Leslye Headland’s retainerIt also starts in a bar, or should we say cantina, since it’s on the planet Ueda, in a galaxy far, far away? So while everyone is quietly murmuring about their work, a masked man barges in. Oh my god, was that a tiny Gungan (Jar Jar Binks is from the same species) behind the bar?

The stranger asks about a Jedi Master named Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) and she is there, very calm and composed, but one can feel the Force within her. The stranger provokes her and even though reluctant to start a fight, Indara – a Force Fu expert – is giving as good as she can with gravity-defying kicks and swings. However, the stranger overpowers Indara and disappears.

On the other side, Meknak, or Grease Gruber, Osha (Amandla Stenberg), is working on a spaceship with her droid Pip. In the galactic capital – the beautiful, jeweled city planet Coruscant – Senior Jedi Master Vernestra Rove (Rebecca Henderson) discusses the attack on Indara with fellow Jedi Master, Sol (Lee Jung-jae). The attacker is identified as Osha, Sol’s former padawan.

Sol and his companions, Jaqi Lone (Dafne Keen), and newly-minted Jedi Knight, Yord (Charlie Barnett), set out to find Osha and bring her in for questioning. After the death of another Jedi Master, Torbin (Dean-Charles Chapman), at a Jedi Temple in Olega, Sol realizes there is a connection between the events and the deaths that occurred on Osha’s home planet of Brendok 16 years ago. Sol, Indara, Torbin and Kelnaka (Joonas Suotamo), a Wookiee Jedi (maybe he yells in weird syntax!), were on a mission in Brendok when things went terribly wrong.
