Matt Reeves, Batman The director has said that series about the Gotham Police Department and Arkham Asylum were scrapped because HBO intended to focus on the “marquee characters” of the Batman universe, the report says Diversity. with the Penguin, Reeves is open to expanding the universe to television.

In the Penguin, Colin Farrell reprises his role as the Gotham City gangster. “When we were writing the movie, I thought, ‘Hey, you know what? I think there are some great shows we could do,'” Reeves explained Entertainment Weekly. “That was really the reason I wanted to do the deal with Warner Bros,” he said.
The spinoff series on the Gotham Police Department was announced in July 2020. It was backed by Reeves and Terence Winter, who later exited the project to make way for Joe Barton in 2021. The series was set a year before Batman As the Gotham police force reckons with the rise of Batman and its own internal corruption, report says Diversity.

After the series idea on the Gotham Police Department failed, Reeves began working on another spinoff idea on Arkham Asylum. This show was also shelved because HBO executives had different suggestions for Reeves. Reeves said, “They were like, ‘We like what you’re doing, and we want to focus more on the marquee characters.'”
